Richard Schoenmann won the New Mexico K-6 State Championship and Daniel Dunning, Samuel Thompson and Niccolo Hilgendorf won the New Mexico K-3 State Championship. 03/13/04 The Albuquerque Schools Chess League "C League" has completed its season. Results have been posted. The Monte Vista Penguins have won the ASCL K-5 League this year. It was a close competition. Congratulations Penguins!
03/05/04 Results from the 2004 New Mexico Grades K-9 Championship have been added to the Previous Events/Results page. Laz Cardenas won the New Mexico K-9 State Championship and has been added to the New Mexico Scholastic Chess Champions page. Congratulations Laz!
02/24/04 I am very pleased to announce that the New Mexico Chess Organization (NMCO) has a new home and new administrators, Ed and Susan Koenig. NMCO's site will now receive the attention and support that I was no longer able to give it. Thank you Ed and Susan!

03/16/03 Based on the results of a four-way playoff, Brendan LaCounte has won the right to represent New Mexico at this year's Arnold Denker Tournament of State Champions. (See the crosstable at the bottom of the 2003 K-12 Championship Results page.) Our state champion, Jason Elliott, is not eligible to compete in the Denker due to that tournament's age restrictions (grades 9-12 only). Accordingly, NMSCO rules provide for a playoff between the higest finishing eligible runner-ups to select a representative. Congratulations Brendan!

Third-grader Edward Lu and Aleksey Butko share this year's K-6 title and Daniel Dunning is the K-3 champ!. All have been added to the New Mexico Scholastic Chess Champions page. Fifth-graders Jason Elliott and Zachary Parliman drew in the final round to share the New Mexico Elementary State Championship. First-grader Edward Lu won the New Mexico Primary State Championship. They have been added to the New Mexico Scholastic Chess Champions page. Congratulations Jason, Zach and Edward!
  The Albuquerque Schools Chess League "C League" has completed its season. Results have been posted. Congratulations Marie Hughes Huskies, 2000-2001 C League champions!
03/12/01 The NMAA SW Regional high school team qualifier tournament has been held. Silver High School finished first and Deming High School second in the large high school section. In the small haigh school section, Tularosa High School finished first and Cliff High School finished second. Based on these results Silver, Deming and Tularosa automatically advance to the finals. 03/05/01 The NMAA Central Regional high school team qualifier tournament was held Saturday. The final standings were: Del Norte HS - 1st, Albuquerque Academy - 2nd, Manzano HS - 3rd, Eldorado HS - 4th, Highland HS - 5th. Based on these results Del Norte and Academy automatically advance to the finals. Check out the NMAA section of the Links page for more information on the state team championships.
03/03/01 Results from the 2001 New Mexico Grades K-12/Youth Championship have been added to the Previous Events/Results page. Cheng Chu has won the New Mexico High School/Youth State Champion title and has been added to the New Mexico Scholastic Chess Champions page. Congratulations Cheng!
  The NMAA SE Regional high school team qualifier tournament was held last week. In the large HS division, Belen High School took first narrowing edging Ruidoso High School who took second. Clovis High School finished third. Tucumcari finished first in the small high school division and Anton Chico finished second.
